MIA: Learning a balance in life and technology

Wondering why I haven’t blogged since OCTOBER?!??!! The answer: pregnancy and a newborn.  I have acclimated to being a mama.  Now it’s time to go back to sharing my students’ work.  Check back for ideas on how to incorporate technology into classroom management, ways to share student iPad projects, and how to develop reading comprehension with technology.

The one thing I believe now more than ever is that technology, like everything in life, must have a balance in a classroom and in children’s lives.  It is NOT healthy to have kids on screens 24/7 and it is not productive if every moment in a classroom is spent on iPads.  A balance must be met.  Technology is successful in a child’s life and in a classroom only if there is balance to the use.  With that being said, we need to identify how to leverage screen time to get the most growth and learning from students.

Think about how you want to structure your students’ days.  Do they need to create something based on a recent learning?  Do they need to problem solve a situation in the classroom with technology?  Are they curious about a topic covered in class that didn’t go as in depth as they desired?  Do they simply need a little drill?  Identify the NEED then go forward with planning your class schedule. Some days have different needs and some students have different needs based on their ability.

I look forward with sharing work created by myself and my students now that I am beginning to have a schedule with my little one!
